There are two tests to help prevent cervical cancer or find it early; the Pap test (or Pap smear) and the HPV test. The Pap test looks for precancers, cell changes on the cervix that may become cervical cancer if they aren’t treated appropriately. The HPV test looks for the virus that can cause these cell changes on the cervix. |
The CDC recommends getting your first Pap test at age 21 and waiting three years for your next test if your initial test result is normal. If you’re 30 years old or older, the CDC recommends three options:
