Cervical Health Awareness Month

January is Cervical Health Awareness Month! It is a chance to raise awareness about how women can protect themselves from HPV (human papillomavirus) and cervical cancer.
Two tests help prevent cervical cancer or find it early, the Pap test and HPV test

There are two tests to help prevent cervical cancer or find it early; the Pap test (or Pap smear) and the HPV test. The Pap test looks for precancers, cell changes on the cervix that may become cervical cancer if they aren’t treated appropriately. The HPV test looks for the virus that can cause these cell changes on the cervix.

The CDC recommends getting your first Pap test at age 21 and waiting three years for your next test if your initial test result is normal. If you’re 30 years old or older, the CDC recommends three options:If you're over 30 there are three options

  • You can continue to get only a Pap test once every three years, if your results continue to be normal
  • You can get just an HPV test once every five years, if your results are normal
  • You can get both an HPV and Pap test together, waiting five years for your next tests if your results are normal.

FSBP understands the importance of regular women’s wellness checks. Cervical cancer screenings (Pap smears) are covered 100 percent in-network and overseas under the Plan. You can also earn a $25 Wellness Reward for your cervical cancer screening by participating in FSBP’s Simple Steps to Living Well Together program.  Prioritize your health today, make an appointment to get screened!
