Disability Insurance – Be Prepared

The cost of living is only increasing. Between rent, mortgage, groceries, car payments, and more, even with a steady source of income, it is difficult to have disposable funds. The lack of emergency savings, along with rising medical costs and fewer benefits offered, has created an absence of coverage that is critical to many American workers and their families.

Unfortunately, the chances of missing work due to illness, injury, or pregnancy, are greater than most realize. According to the Social Security Administration, 1 in 4 of today’s 20-year-olds can expect to be out of work for at least a year because of a disabling condition before they reach the normal retirement age. To add, each year around 5% of working Americans will experience a short-term disability (six months or less) due to illness, injury, or pregnancy1

How AFSPA Can Help

Our disability coverage can bring you precious peace of mind by helping cover your regular living expenses if you are unable to work for several weeks or months but are not permanently disabled. If you are new to federal service or have less than two years of sick leave, we highly recommend considering one of our three disability plans. You can enroll at any time.

The CIGNA 30-day disability plan offers comprehensive disability insurance, up to $5,000 a month, for a 2-year period after a 30-day waiting (elimination) period. No health application is required.

The CIGNA 90-day disability plan accommodates a greater range of salaries at a lower premium. It offers a higher maximum monthly benefit (up to $7,500 a month), for a 2 or 5-year period, after a 90-day waiting period. No health application is required.

The Lloyd’s of London disability plan offers worldwide coverage of up to $5,000 per month for a 2-year period after a 45-day waiting period.
