Dear AFSPA Member,
As we step into a new year, I would like to extend a warm welcome to all the new members who have chosen to enroll in the Foreign Service Benefit Plan (FSBP), or any of our Ancillary Insurance Programs (AIP). Our FSBP plan offers a wide range of benefits, including medical and prescription drugs, ensuring coverage wherever you are. Our AIP programs provide additional coverage options, such as dental, life, disability, travel insurance, and more.
I would also like to express my sincere appreciation to our existing members, who have placed their trust in us year after year. With over 35,000 enrollees and ensuring over 100,000 lives, we are committed to providing you with the best possible service. We value your membership and are continuously working to improve our offerings to meet your evolving needs.
For those who are not familiar with me, I am Kyle Longton, and I am honored to serve as the new Chief Executive Officer at AFSPA. I am excited to take on this new role and build on the successes of my predecessor, Paula S. Jakub, RHU. Our team is dedicated to ensuring that you continue to receive the highest level of service and support possible. Together, we will continue to strive to exceed your expectations and provide you with the peace of mind that comes with knowing that you have the best possible coverage.
New Benefit Enhancements and Updates in 2024
Starting this year, FSBP’s coverage for infertility services has been expanded to include Comprehensive Infertility and Advanced Reproductive Technology (ART) procedures with no annual dollar limits in 2024. Please note that prior approval is required for services received in the U.S. and overseas, and certain conditions must be met to qualify for the enhanced benefit. For more information on this updated coverage, please refer to the 2024 FSBP Plan brochure.
In addition to this, FSBP’s coverage for chiropractic, acupuncture, and massage therapy visits has also been upgraded. The new coverage will pay up to $75 per visit for each service, which is an increase from the previous $60 per visit. Moreover, FSBP members can now enjoy access to Maven Clinic, which offers comprehensive women’s health support throughout fertility, pregnancy, adoption, parenting, pediatrics, perimenopause, and menopause. Lastly, we added a new Express Scripts Medicare® Prescription Drug Plan (PDP) for FSBP most FSBP members aged 65 and above. There is more information about the plan, including links to a drug pricing tool and a pharmacy locator tool at afspa.org/pdp.
We understand that some members had questions regarding why they were automatically enrolled in the new Express Scripts Medicare® PDP for FSBP. The primary reason is to help members save on their prescription costs. We believe in the benefits of this plan so strongly that we have auto-enrolled eligible members to make it more convenient for them to save. While most will see lower copays, we encourage members, especially those who hit the Medicare IRMAA threshold, to evaluate their options and do the math carefully. Opting out of the plan is easy, and if you choose to do so, you will continue to receive the same excellent prescription benefits you currently have under FSBP.
