From the CEO - January 2026

Dear AFSPA Members:

Happy New Year! As we enter a new year, I want to warmly welcome all the new members who have joined the Foreign Service Benefit Plan (FSBP) or any of our Ancillary Insurance Programs (AIP). FSBP offers a comprehensive range of benefits, including medical and prescription drug coverage, ensuring you are protected wherever you are. Our AIP programs add extra coverage options like dental, life, disability, travel insurance, and more.

I want to thank our over 50,000 members for trusting us year after year. We are committed to providing excellent service and continuously improving to meet your evolving needs.

Did Somebody Say 50 Massages?

If you are new to FSBP, you can receive up to 50 massages, 50 chiropractic visits, and 50 acupuncture sessions each year for every covered member in your plan. How fantastic is that?

You must visit a licensed therapist or facility, pay upfront, and submit your receipt for reimbursement at myafspa.org. You can receive up to $75 back for each visit. As a quick reminder, please submit one claim per day, per service type, to ensure a smoother process. For even faster reimbursements, consider enrolling in our Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) to ensure reimbursements go directly to your U.S. bank account.

Please note: You have coverage for only one of each type of alternative service per calendar day. For example, the Plan will consider claims for one acupuncture service and one massage received on the same day; however, you will not have coverage for two massage therapy claims on the same date of service.

New Customer Service Hours into 2026

I am excited to share some great news. Your invaluable feedback during Open Season has inspired us to make our extended customer service hours a permanent fixture. Our dedicated Health Benefits Officers are now available to you, Monday through Friday, from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. ET, ready to provide exceptional support and guidance tailored to your specific needs. With this enhancement, we are committed to ensuring that our global membership receives the assistance it deserves. You can reach us at 202-833-4910.

Dental Options Available All Year

The Federal Open Season has ended, which means your chance to enroll in a FEDVIP plan is closed for the year, unless you experience a qualifying life event. However, you still have coverage options. AFSPA offers four dental insurance plans, including a true international plan. If these plans aren’t the right fit for you, consider exploring our combined dental and vision discount plan, offered in partnership with Careington. We will explore these programs as well as other related Ancillary Insurance Programs (AIP) during our ‘Ancillary January’ series, which will be featured across various platforms, including our blogspodcast, and AFSPA Live sessions. Learn more about AIP at afspa.org/aip.

A Few Notes on FSBP

All continuing FSBP members should have received new ID cards in December. This new card features updated information, including the out-of-pocket maximum, on the back, along with updated branding for Evernorth-Express Scripts on the front. Your ID number remains the same.

Members enrolled in the FSBP-Aetna Medicare Advantage Plan should continue to use their card for that program when seeking medical care and prescription drugs. Members enrolled in the FSBP-Express Scripts Medicare Prescription Drug Plan (PDP) should use the new card for medical care and continue to use the PDP card for prescription drugs.

FSBP members covered by the High Option prescription drug benefits and receiving GLP-1 drugs for weight loss (e.g. Wegovy and Zepbound) from pharmacies in the United States must enroll in the new Advanced Weight Management Program from Teladoc Health. Enrollment is available on January 1, 2026. Please visit our GLP-1 FAQ blog page for this program and listen to our podcast episode from November for more information.

As of January 1, 2026, the myStrength program is no longer available. Members looking for support for mental health can explore the options available through our other programs here.

As we enter a new year, remember that every day is an opportunity to start anew, set fresh goals, and improve ourselves. We encourage you to stay connected with us and continue exploring our offerings through our blogspodcast, and social media platforms.

Let’s embrace the incredible opportunities that 2026 offers! Together, we can create a year filled with safety, prosperity, and health. We are truly thankful for the chance to serve you and your family, and we are thrilled to share this journey with you!

To Living and Feeling Better,

Kyle Longton, CAE, REBC
