Understanding Healthy Weight and How to Get There

Most of us loathe it. The rattle that sounds out as we step onto a scale, the eye aversion as the correct weight is calibrated, the look down or ahead at that number that seems so final in the moment. Weight is something we don’t like to deal with, but in order to live healthy, sustainable lives, we must 

Stepping on the scale doesn’t always have to be dreaded, if you’re at a healthy weight it might even be something you look forward to. January 15-21 is Healthy Weight Week, a time to celebrate diet-free living habits such as healthy eating, physical activity, optimal sleep, and stress reduction, that last a lifetime and prevent weight problems. 

To know if you’re at a healthy weight it’s important to know your body mass index (BMI). BMI is a person’s weight in kilograms divided by the square of height in meters. A high BMI can indicate high body fatness, and a low BMI can indicate too low body fatness1. To calculate your BMI, visit the BMI calculator, or determine your BMI by finding your height and weight in this BMI Index Chart
