In January, we are highlighting our Ancillary Insurance Programs (AIP). We offer six types of insurance under AIP, ranging from life insurance to travel insurance. You can find all the types we cover at afspa.org/aip. Wherever you may be located, you can enroll in any of AFSPA’s AIP insurance plans at any time. There are no open enrollment period restrictions. One of the truly unique plans we offer is Members of Household (MOH) insurance.
Who is Covered by MOH?
Members of Household insurance provide medical travel protection for those you love. This plan covers members in your household, like family, domestic partners, au pairs, nannies, and friends. This plan is excellent for your family members or friends who are not eligible under your Federal Employees Health Benefits Program (FEHBP). Coverage is provided for U.S. citizens spending a significant amount of time with you overseas, as well as foreign nationals needing healthcare coverage while living with you in the States or while traveling outside their home country.
Three (MOH Insurance Plans to Choose From
The first MOH plan AFSPA offers is the Global Medical Insurance (GMI). This plan provides the most options to safeguard your loved ones worldwide. GMI offers maximum flexibility to choose the coverage that best suits you. There are five different coverage options to choose from. You can customize your coverage length and area, and select from multiple deductibles and payment methods. Here are some fast facts about GMI:
The next MOH plan is the Patriot Travel Series. This plan is for loved ones visiting outside of their home country. The Patriot Travel Medical Insurance offers the Patriot America plan for travel in the U.S., and the Patriot International plan for travel outside the U.S. Each plan offers different levels of coverage depending on if you choose Lite, Plus, or Premium. Applicants must be traveling outside their home country and reside with you at least five days of the year to a maximum of 364 days.
GlobeHopper Senior is the last MOH plan AFSPA offers. This plan is for the protection of senior family members when they travel outside the U.S. To qualify, applicants must be U.S. citizens or U.S. permanent residents who are 65 or older. There are two plan options: Single-Trip and Multi-Trip.
