Dear AFSPA Member,
September brings new routines and opportunities to focus on your family’s health, well-being, and financial security. This month, I encourage you to use the available resources to make informed decisions, build healthy habits, and plan for the future.
As families settle into a new school year, this is a great time to refocus on healthy routines. Getting enough sleep, eating nutritious meals, and staying up to date on routine checkups and vaccinations can make a meaningful difference in your child’s overall health and well-being. The start of school can also bring new challenges and emotions, so remember to check in on your child’s mental and emotional health as they adjust to this new school year. Listen to our recent AFSPA Talks podcast episode on Back to School with Catherine McLean, MS, LCSW, from the Truman Group.
September is Life Insurance Awareness Month, a reminder to review your current coverage and make sure it continues to meet the needs of you and your loved ones. Life insurance can be an important part of your financial plan, helping provide financial security for your family when the unexpected happens. I encourage you to take some time this month to understand your coverage options and consider whether your current plan aligns with your needs and budget. To learn more, join us on September 29 at 11 AM ET for a webinar discussing the importance of life insurance and how the right coverage can help protect your family’s financial future. Register here.

We know life can get busy, and staying on top of important updates isn’t always easy. That’s why AFSPA is partnering with Prudential to make it even more convenient to stay informed about many of our Ancillary Insurance Programs with timely updates sent directly to your phone. By signing up, you’ll receive helpful reminders, important program updates, and information about upcoming opportunities, including life insurance open enrollment.
Signing up is quick and easy. Simply click here and enter your mobile phone number and email address to start receiving updates. Prudential will message you only with important reminders, timely updates, and details about AFSPA Ancillary Insurance Program coverages, including Group Enhanced Life (GEL), Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D), Critical Illness (CI), and Long-Term Disability (LTD) Insurance made available to AFSPA members.
September is National Cholesterol Education Month, a reminder that protecting your heart health starts with knowing your numbers. Because high cholesterol often has no symptoms, regular screenings are important for understanding your risk of heart disease and stroke. I encourage you to have your cholesterol levels checked and talk with your healthcare provider about ways to maintain healthy levels through diet, physical activity, and, when appropriate, medication. Foreign Service Benefit Plan (FSBP) members can also take advantage of wellness rewards, including $100 after completing an annual exam and biometric screening, and $75 after completing a health risk assessment (HRA).
We know that many people are relocating this time of year. Please make sure we have your current contact information. You can update your address, phone number, and email address in the AFSPA Member Portal.
Stay connected with us to learn how to maximize your benefits and coverage. You can access our blogs, podcasts, and free educational webinars, and follow us on social media for valuable information.
