From the CEO - December 2022

Dear AFSPA Member,

As the days get shorter and the weather gets colder, we continue to see respiratory viruses, including influenza (the flu), COVID-19, and Respiratory Syncytial Virus Infection (RSV), spreading rapidly across the country. I strongly urge you to get your flu shot and COVID-19 booster shot. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recommends everyone age six months and older receive the flu vaccine. If you are due for a COVID-19 booster, it is safe to get both the flu shot and the COVID-19 booster shots together.

Wellness Incentives: Don’t Miss Out!

As an added benefit, Foreign Service Benefit Plan (FSBP) members age 18+ years can earn a $25 wellness reward after receiving the flu shot. Also, it’s not too late to earn your healthy action wellness incentives for 2022, which includes getting a breast cancer, cervical, or colorectal cancer screening, participating in our digital or Lifestyle and Conditioning Coaching (LCC) programs, or tracking your physical activity. Learn more about how to complete these incentives here.

Is the Holiday Season Stressing You Out?

The holiday season and the start of the new year is exciting. It provides an opportunity to spend quality time with family, take a few days off from work, or go on a winter getaway. While the seasonal activities and celebrations can be a fun time, it can also be very stressful. For most of us, the combined effort of gift shopping, attending social events, and entertaining guests can quickly become too much to handle. While taking care of everyone else, don’t forget to take some time for yourself.

FSBP continues to offer mental health benefits, digital support programs, and educational resources that may help ease the pressure of the holidays. I invite you to visit our website and explore our various health programs to aid in managing emotional concerns, stress, anxiety, and more. FSBP also offers telehealth services (for members in the U.S. and overseas) where you can speak to a therapist by phone or video.

As this year draws to a close, I want to thank you for your continued loyalty. We look forward to serving you in 2023 and wish you and your loved ones a safe, healthy, and happy holiday season!

To your health,
