Federal Benefits Open Season runs from November 9 through December 14, 2026! Now is the time to review your health, dental, and vision coverage to ensure your benefits continue to meet your needs in 2027.

Whether you’re considering making changes or keeping your current coverage, the American Foreign Service Protective Association (AFSPA) is here to help you make informed decisions.

Important Open Season Reminders

Before Open Season ends, take a few minutes to review your coverage and consider the following:

• Review your 2027 health benefits and premiums. Consider your health care needs for the coming year. Are you planning to start a family? Do you anticipate needing physical therapy, chiropractic care, or other services? Make sure your plan offers the coverage that works best for you and your family.
• Don’t forget dental and vision coverage. Review any changes to your 2027 benefits and premiums under the Federal Employees Dental and Vision Insurance Program (FEDVIP). Consider upcoming needs, such as new glasses, dental procedures, or orthodontic care.
• Know what happens if you take no action. If you’re satisfied with your current health, dental, and vision coverage, your enrollment will generally continue automatically into 2027. However, your premiums and benefits may change.
• Remember the rules for making changes. Outside of Open Season, you generally cannot enroll, change, or cancel your coverage unless you experience a Qualifying Life Event.
• Re-enroll in FSAFEDS if eligible. Unlike health, dental, and vision coverage, Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAFEDS) do not automatically renew. Eligible employees must re-enroll each year to participate.
• Understand how Medicare works with your coverage. If you’re eligible for Medicare, review the Office of Personnel Management’s Medicare and FEHB resources to better understand how the programs work together.
