Dear AFSPA Member,
As I am writing this message from the office, it seems as if we are now entering a new chapter – a step closer to a post-pandemic world. While we are very much still in a pandemic, I am happy to see more people enjoying each other’s company away from a virtual-only setting. As we begin a new season, let us all celebrate and be thankful for our health and enjoy the upcoming summer festivities and celebrations.
Pride Month
First, I would like to acknowledge that June is Pride Month. We at AFSPA, proudly support the LGBTQ+ community and the inclusion and acceptance of all. Members enrolled in the Foreign Service Benefit Plan (FSBP) have access to programs and benefits that may help meet the mental and physical needs of our LGBTQ+ community. Learn more about our mental wellness programs as well as our gender affirming surgery and hormone therapy plan benefits.
Listen to the AFSPA Talks podcast episode we aired last year about LGBTQ+ Youth. This episode covers everything from the coming-out process for children, to parents’ reactions to their children’s identities, to gender dysphoria, and more. And later this month on AFSPA Talks, we’ll be speaking with LGBTQ+ community members about their family formation stories.
National Cancer Survivors Day U.S.A. – June 5
The number of cancer survivors is increasing because rapid medical advancements are making it possible to provide the right diagnosis and treatment early. Members enrolled in FSBP have access to quality care professionals that can help get you the right diagnosis and care management you need. Learn more about our cancer management programs. Whether you’re recently diagnosed, living with cancer, have finished active treatment or have been cancer free for several years, I want to recognize your cancer survivorship!

Coming soon – a new and convenient online payment option feature that will allow you to use a credit/debit card to pay for your quarterly and annual premiums for your Long-Term Care, Life, Critical Illness, and Dental insurance plans. New Behavioral Health Support for Kids – Coming Soon!
Brightline, a new behavioral health benefit for members enrolled in FSBP is coming soon. Brightline brings extraordinary behavioral health care for kids and teens, and support for parents and caregivers in the form of psychologists, psychiatrists, speech therapists and more. It’s all delivered virtually by in- network providers in the U.S., so you can access it when and where you need it. Brightline offers dedicated one-on-one coaching for pressures such as stress, anxious thoughts, navigating friendships, social media or cyberbullying, self-esteem issues, sleep problems, etc. Look out for more information about this new program.
Stay Connected
I’m excited to announce that our first video podcast, AFSPA Live, was a success. This show is a chance to have a real-time discussion with AFSPA leadership and subject matter experts about topics from our pre-recorded podcast, AFSPA Talks. If you missed it, check out the recording on our YouTube channel, youtube.com/afspacares. Feel to subscribe while you’re there! If you want to participate in AFPSA Live, we’ll be hosting another show at the end of this month. Stay tuned for more information.
And don’t forget about other ways you can stay connected on all things AFSPA: our website news, blogs, newsletters, podcast, and social media channels. We cover a ton of interesting topics on all platforms, including our recent “Focus on AIP” series. This month, we will have podcast discussions about infertility treatments, family planning, and new benefits on the horizon.
I hope you and your family continue to enjoy a safe and healthy summer season. As always, thank you for your trust and for giving us the opportunity to serve you.
