From the CEO

Greetings AFSPA Family,

It is July, which means summer is in full effect for many of us. We want you to have a healthy season. Here are some helpful tips:

COVID-19 Treatment FSBP Benefit Change

July 1 marks the beginning of a change for COVID-19 treatment coverage under the Foreign Service Benefit Plan (FSBP). As of today, coverage for COVID-19 treatment will be at 90 percent for in-network providers and at 70 percent for out-of-network providers, which is a return to the regular terms of the FSBP Brochure.

There is no change for FSBP coverage of COVID-19 testing. We will continue covering FDA-approved tests, administration costs and lab costs at 100 percent for members in the U.S. and overseas.

For the most up-to-date information on COVID-19, visit our COVID-19 webpage.

NEW!  AFSPA Critical Illness Insurance Plan

We are excited to offer our members a new coverage option to help in the event of a serious diagnosis. AFSPA’s new Critical Illness Insurance Plan, launching today (July 1), pays a lump sum benefit if you are diagnosed with a serious illness like cancer, heart disease or organ failure.

Members can use this benefit to cover medical and daily living expenses incurred during treatment or recovery. That means you can use it to cover mortgage payments, childcare expenses, or transportation costs – you decide! The plan is available to AFSPA members under age 65. Spouses do not need to be dependents to enroll.  If you would like to learn more or enroll, visit afspa.org/criticalillness.

2021 Summer Newsletter

The AFSPA in Action Summer newsletter will be out later this month. Our newest edition will feature a number of summer-related wellness topics we think you’ll really enjoy, so don’t forget to check your mailboxes in the coming weeks. To read our past newsletter issues, click here.

Before signing off, I want to wish you all a Happy Fourth of July and holiday weekend. Whether celebrating here or abroad, let us take a moment to appreciate the many freedoms we enjoy in the United States. The service you provide for our country helps preserve a lot of those freedoms, and for that I thank you.

To Your Health,

Paula S. Jakub, RHU
