May is Healthy Vision Month. Throughout May, the National Eye Institute encourages everyone to prioritize their eye health. In America, over 23 million people ages 18 and older have never had an eye exam. Most people do not think they have an eye problem until it is too late. Symptoms of many eye diseases do not appear in the early stages. Healthy Vision Month is a reminder to check your eye health and maintain healthy habits to keep your eyes healthy.

National Infertility Awareness Week was founded in 1989 by Resolve: The National Infertility & Family Building Association. This organization focuses on empowering people navigating their fertility journey.

March is National Endometriosis Awareness Month. Endometriosis occurs when tissue similar to the lining of a uterus grows in other parts of the body. This is a painful condition that can be excruciating during menstrual cycles. Endometriosis is commonly found behind the uterus, ovaries, and fallopian tubes, and sometimes in other organs, such as the bladder, lungs, or intestines. It affects 1 in 10 females worldwide.

In times of global uncertainty, it’s normal to feel increased stress, anxiety, and emotional fatigue. For members of the Foreign Service community, especially those stationed overseas or who have family members serving overseas, global events can feel especially personal.

National Children’s Dental Health Month originally began as a one-day event in Cleveland, Ohio, on February 2, 1941. Now, it occurs every February to highlight the importance of children’s dental health. Good oral health habits start early, and teaching children to brush, floss, and make tooth-friendly food choices lays the foundation for a lifetime of confident smiles. From a child’s first tooth to their teenage years, regular dental checkups and preventive care play a crucial role in avoiding cavities and building positive dental experiences. This month is a great opportunity for parents, caregivers, and educators to reinforce simple daily habits that keep little teeth strong and healthy.
